Preventive Maintenance
The purpose of the Preventive Maintenance Program is to ensure that the physical condition, educational suitability and physical infrastructure of all public school facilities in New Mexico meet an adequate level statewide. The design, construction, and maintenance of school sites and facilities encourages, promotes and maximizes safe, functional, and durable learning environments. This helps the state to meet its educational responsibilities and for New Mexico’s students to have the opportunity to achieve success.
The PM Plan is a living document that should be updated annually as target goals are met, inventories of equipment changes or staff changes occur.
What is the benefit of a Preventive Maintenance Plan?
A PMP reduces maintenance spending through non-reactive maintenance. There is improved fiscal budget spending when school districts plan maintenance effectively. PMPs create well-maintained and safe school facilities and learning environments with reduced risks to students, staff, and visitors. This provides assurance to the local community that the district is prudently maintaining facilities that the community has funded.

Preventive Maintenance Template
This following list of PDF links is the Preventive Maintenance Template. It is recommended that individual districts create programs designed that complement their maintenance programs specifics based on staffing levels, facility structure, and design.
Throughout this template, areas where districts need to input their specific actions, processes, and inventories are identified in RED type.
By completing an annual update to your maintenance plan, your program will encompass best practices from districts throughout the state of New Mexico.
NOTE: The New Mexico Legislature has mandated that all public school districts have a Preventive Maintenance Plan that addresses all of its facilities, including charter schools. With an effective PMP, a district will be able to properly utilize its available resources in providing and developing the best possible facilities and maintain financial responsibility for its students and staff.
